The analysis

Brazil carry a clear individual-quality edge and field an attacking 4-3-3 with extra incentive: because Morocco are overwhelmingly expected to beat Haiti, a draw would leave Brazil (5 pts) behind a winning Morocco (7 pts), so they must win to top the group rather than coast. Vinícius Júnior — scorer in both group games — leads a front line reshaped by Raphinha's hamstring injury, with Rayan and Matheus Cunha starting and Neymar at most a bench option. The deciding factor is that gulf against a Scotland side that creates almost nothing in open play. Crucially, Scotland do not need to win: a draw lifts them to four points and all but secures a best-third-placed berth (a four-point third-placed team is around 99% safe even now that the G–L results have pushed the cut-off up and left the three-point teams sweating), so Steve Clarke is expected to pack midfield and defend deep exactly as he did limiting Morocco. That, plus Miami's heat sapping the Scots, makes a controlled, narrow Brazilian win the likeliest outcome — but a low-event draw is genuinely live, which is why this is a lean, not a romp.

Full-time review

We expected a controlled, narrow Brazil win with Scotland able to sit deep for a point, and Brazil duly topped the group — but in comfort rather than tension, running out 3-0 with Vinícius Júnior scoring twice. The Brazil tip landed; Scotland offered too little to make it the low-event draw we'd flagged as live.
